The Remington Legacy began nearly 200 years ago when Eliphalet Remington II set out to build a better firearm than those available from his area dealers. He was originally a blacksmith and decided to expand his business to include rifle barrel production. He soon built up a large following of local farmers. This was the start of today’s firearms empire and in 1912, the company merged with Union Metallic Cartridge to form Remington UMC.
During World War I, Remington made guns for multiple Allied powers. They produced thousands of M1907-15 Bertheir rifles for the French army and kept Britain stocked with the Pattern 1914 Enfield Rifles. They sold Model 1891 Mosin-Nagant rifles to Russia. Production boomed in the war era and it hasn’t slowed down since.
When the Great Depression wreaked havoc on America’s economy, Remington survived by an acquisition from DuPont Corporation and then one year later, they bought Peters Cartridge Company. This was the birth of a firearms empire that is still raining supreme in the American gun market today.
