.38 Long Colt Ammunition

Also known as: 38 Long Colt

Colt Manufacturing Company introduced the .38 Long Colt as a black powder cartridge in 1875 and it was later used as a standard military pistol cartridge for the US Army. It produces slightly more power than the .38 Short Colt and has a longer case length. While the Short Colt used 130 grain heeled bullets, the Long Colt uses a .357-.358 bullet. It was occasionally used among civilians with Colt revolvers, but it almost became obsolete after Smith and Wesson introduced the powerful .38 Special cartridge.
