The .44-40 Winchester is a center fire cartridge introduced in 1873. It marked the first time Winchester offered a centerfire metallic cartridge and was the standard offering for the Model 1873 rifle. This caliber was used in both rifles and handguns and is directly related to the famous rifle that is historically called “the gun that won the West”.
