.300 Savage Ammunition

Also known as: 300 savage

The .300 Savage was first introduced in 1920 to replace the .303 Savage used in the 99-lever action rifle. It has a stumpy neck and short case, but it is still fully capable of sending a heavy 150-grain bullet to an effective hunting range of 300 yards. In a side-by-side comparison, the .308 Winchester will outperform the Savage thanks to higher pressures. However, it is still quite popular as a hunting cartridge in Canada, where shooters seek large game like moose and elk. When used in lever rifles, it has a marked advantage over the popular 30-30 Win.
