Nils Kvale created the .308 Norma Magnum cartridge in Sweden. It provides maximum length to work in a standard Mauser action. When it was released, it seemed to have a promising market, but it was quickly surpassed by the .300 Win Mag. The 308 Noma Mag is made using three basic design strategies: necking down the .338 Win Mag, necking up the 7mm Rem Mag, or place .300 Win Mag cases through full length die. Because the ammunition for the 308 Norma Mag is quite expensive, it’s not a very popular choice and is mainly chosen by handloaders who have a preferred rifle that requires this caliber.
