.376 Steyr Ammunition

Also known as: 376 Steyr

Hornady and Steyr released the .376 Steyr rifle cartridge in 1999 for use in the Steyr Scout rifle. It is built to mimic the 9.3 x 64 Brenneke case, but necked up to accept a .375 bullet. The case was also shortened slightly to work with standard length rifles. It has been used on dangerous hunts where it proved effective to take down even large aggressive lions. In most African countries, gun laws require that hunters use a minimum of .366 or .375 calibers for hunting large dangerous game. The .376 Steyr was created largely to satisfy this requirement.
