5.6 × 52mmR Ammunition

Also known as: 5.6 x 52 mm R (22 Savage High-Power)

Charles Newton and Savage Arms designed the 5.6x52mmR in 1912 with development mirroring the Winchester.25-35 cartridge that has been necked down to work with the .227 bullet. It was well received among dangerous game hunters and surged in popularity among those targeting tigers. However, an increase in fatal accidents where a prey was wounded but not completely disabled led this caliber to fall into disfavor after World War I. Today, it is only available as an export from European manufacturers.
