Also known as: 22 Long Rifle, 22 LR, .22 Long Rifle (LR), .22, 22LR, 745, 22 Caliber
When the .22 LR was first released, it was eagerly embraced by hunters. It is surprisingly low powered compared to many automatic cartridges used today, but it still attracted a loyal following of small game hunters. It is designed with a self-contained rimfire primer so it cannot be crafted or broken down. There are several variations of the .22 LR like the hollow point that breaks up on impact of the plinking model, which is often chosen for hunting small varmints. Remington’s 22 LR is sometimes recommended for getting young shooters started.
